Graduation Prayer Meeting for form 6
The prayer meeting for the Form Six students was held on the 28th of February, the last school day before the HKDSE. All teachers and students gathered to pray for the graduates for their upcoming examination. The meeting was officiated by school supervisor Rev Johnson, along with Rev John Zhang and Rev Andrew Wang, SVD.
Rev. Johnson encourages Form Six boys to keep three key points in mind for their public exam. First, trust in God’s plan, believing God will guide them and grant them strength to face challenges. Second, God gives every person unique talents. By making good use of those talents and doing their best, they will find success. Third, they are not alone. Jesus is always with them, and their classmates, family members, friends and teachers are supporting them.
Before the end of the prayer meeting, Fr. Johnson, Fr. John and Fr. Andrew blessed each Form Six student individually by laying on of hands. Five Catholic representatives read out the heartwarming messages of encouragement from students of different forms, creating a touching atmosphere.
The Chairperson of Student Association made a speech, quoting Socrates' saying, “The only thing I know is that I know nothing”, to inspire Form Six students to stay enthusiastic about learning and pursue knowledge.
Finally, Principal Dr Hui delivered a speech, mentioning rhododendrons, which always bloom during examinations. It symbolizes beauty and hope in hardships, and it also represents self-control. He emphasizes that self-control and discipline are crucial for achieving excellent results. He reminded Form Six students that leaving school marks the start of a next chapter, encouraging them to prepare for future challenges, never underestimate their ability, pursue their dreams, and never give up.
2024-2025 Mid-Year Prize Presentation
The 2024-2025 Mid-Year Prize Presentation of Sing Yin Secondary School took place on 19 February 2025 (Wednesday) in the school hall. Over ten awards were presented to honor students who have excelled in both academic and extracurricular activities, including the Hong Kong Students National Knowledge Contest, the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, the Inter-School Drama Competition, the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics, the National Security Quiz Competition, and the Junior Secondary Science Online Self-learning Scheme, a recognition they truly deserve.
Following the awards, Principal Hui delivered an inspiring speech. He quoted the famous saying, ""No pressure, no diamonds,"" and shared stories of notable figures, encouraging students to embrace challenges and push their limits, continually growing through adversity.
The ceremony featured a special guest, Mr. Yick Kin Ho, a 2017 graduate. Mr. Yick recently completed the Hong Kong Four Trails Ultra Challenge during the Lunar New Year Holiday, finishing in 71 hours and 32 minutes, thus setting a record as the youngest ""survivor"" of the HK4TUC. During his sharing session, Mr. Yick recounted his experiences throughout the challenge, including moments of physical exhaustion and hallucinations. Despite doubts from his friends supporting him throughout the journey about whether he could finish within the time limit, his unwavering perseverance led him to accomplish what once seemed impossible. His journey served as a powerful inspiration for students to pursue their goals, regardless of the obstacles they may encounter.
As the ceremony concluded, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the prize winners. We encourage students to apply the lessons learned and continue striving for greater achievements and honors.
55th School Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass
Sing a song of Sing Yin
Sing Yin Secondary School held its 55th Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass on January 17 at Christ the King Chapel, Causeway Bay. The Mass was presided over by Rev. Joseph HA Chi-shing, Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong, and concelebrated by School Supervisor Rev. Johnson Dhos and several Divine Word Missionary fathers. Episcopal Delegate for Education of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, school board members, retired principals, parents, alumni, and all teachers and students were invited to participate in this solemn and grateful occasion.
Before the Mass began, President Rev. Johnson Dhos reflected on the over half a century during which Sing Yin Secondary School has been committed to providing world-class education with an international perspective to boys in the Kwun Tong district. The school has nurtured many talents who have excelled in various fields and contributed to society. He attributed this success to God's constant care for the school. Additionally, Father Dhos shared the theme of this year's anniversary celebration: ""Sing a Song of Sing Yin"" , which signifies everyone proudly singing the school songs of different eras with resounding voices. He expressed the hope that these songs would remain close to everyone's hearts and that the spirit of these songs would be passed down from one generation to the next.
The Gospel reading of the day was taken from John 10:1-10. Among the verses, John 10:10, ""I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full"" serves as the Mission Statement of Sing Yin Secondary School. In his homily, Bishop Ha first shared his connection with Sing Yin Secondary School and then explained the meaning of a more abundant life. He cited a 1938 Harvard University study on happiness, pointing out that the key to a happy and abundant life lies in building stable, intimate, and lasting relationships with others. Bishop Ha mentioned that the meaning of ""The Word"" is God's communication with humanity, and the purpose of this communication is to offer eternal, unchanging, and perfect love, enabling people to live a more abundant life. He further encouraged students to not only focus on their studies but also take time to listen to what the Lord is saying to them.
